Pretty good. And iPads are with the students to help them pass there tests. Great school.
Need to bring back Mrs. Drinka
Lyford started going downhill, education wise, about 1979. That's when the school board, had a majority vote that was 'Hispanic' or Mexican if you wish. They fired Mr. Trolinger, the then Superintendant, and brought in a Dr. Seinz, who came from Weslaco. He brought in all these rules and regulations, and basically ran off every good teacher that Lyford had. White and Mexican. Our beloved Band Director, W. R. Snaveley who'd been there almost 17 years, and brought nothing but 1st divisions home, got run off. He ended up going to La Feria. Too many good teachers who loved Lyford, because of its small town values, and love of community left. By 1983, Dr. Seinz, ended up getting a DWI, and was supposedly having an affair with his secretary. The same majority run school board, who thought they were doing good, bringing in a Mexican to run a mostly Mexican student body (which is basically the entire valley right?), ended up finding out the hard way, that their assumptions about the so called white teachers and the White administration, were evil and what not, was way, way off base. Trolinger was a good man, as were all the teachers who left, both white and mexican. Dr. Seinz ended up getting his contract bought out, some $40,000 which at that time was a huge amount of money. Sad to say folks, but that's where it started getting bad. By the time me and my friends graduated, there was no challenge anymore, as the school began teaching to the lowest intelligence level in the class room. Sad, cause when I went, I had a lot of pride in that school. I think you'll find a lot of us old timers did, and I'm sure the current student body does too. But that's where it started.....1979. All anyone needs to do, is take a look at the grammer of the other reviews, to tell the difference in the quality of education I received, and the younger reviewers received. It's a shame. Still great folks living in Lyford though. My suggestion to the student body, is to demand more out of the school. Student Body President, go to the school board meetings. Get something stirred up.
